This problem most commonly comes about when you or someone you trust opens to repair any issue on your iPhone and during the process mixes up the screws and placing the wrong screw in the wrong area when putting it back together. The screws on the iPhones are almost all different sizes but to most of us without a microscope, they look to be very similar. Because of this, if you are are not experienced at repairing the iPhone 5s it is very easy to mixup the screws and cause this problem.
The problem occurs when replacing the 4 screws that hold down the plate over the screen connectors. If the screws get swapped and one of the longer screws is placed in the hole for the shorter, it will damage the logic board. The phone will boot loop, displaying a blue screen at the end of the boot loop and if a restore is attempted it will fail giving an error 14 or error 9 in iTunes.
The screws as shown in the 2nd picture.
If you install either red or yellow screws into the orange spot, a common mistake because normal eyesight can not detect a 0.1mm difference? The screw will cut into the PCB as shown in the 3rd picture and break several traces, as shown in the 4th picture after removing the solder mask, causing a blue screen error on the phone. Picture 5 shows the repair.
We can repair this with advanced micro soldering technique and bridging the breaks in these traces with microscopic copper wire (the width of a human hair). On average this repair will take most technicians around 2 hours to do, though as you get more skilled at doing so and with a little luck it is possible to do within an hour or so.
Note: Because of the nature of the damage, this repair is not always successful and will depend on the extent of the damage to the logic board.
